On Friday, October 13th, NXT City will kick off its 2017 symposium, FutureProof, at the Jane Mallett Theatre in downtown Toronto.

In its fourth year, the Toronto not-for-profit’s two-day event will showcase some of the world’s most noteworthy public space experts as they come to the city to share their learnings on shaping public realm projects and the role they play in city building.

Day one will feature a series of TED-style talks from a diverse and truly international group that NXT City has curated. The full speakers schedule can be viewed here.

The itinerary for October 14th was recently announced and features keynotes from Mirik Milan, the Night Mayor of Amsterdam, and Toronto Mayor John Tory. The two mayors will then sit down with CBC Toronto News co-host Dwight Drummond for a conversation about creating 24/7 cities.

Following more keynotes and engaging discussions, day two will culminate with the FutureProof Afterparty, set to be held at the 35,000-square-foot former Toronto Star printing factory at 1 Yonge Street. The factory has remained unused since 1992 when the Toronto Star moved its printing operations to Vaughan. Now the unique space will play host to art installations designed and curated by Toronto artist Lauren Vaile, open bar and food samplings from local partners like La Carnita and Gushi, retro arcade games and a headline DJ set by Bambii.

The Afterparty is sponsored by the NXT Vanguard, a group of partners that the organization believes represent “the next generation of city building leaders.” The Vanguard is made up of Norm Li, a rendering and animation studio catering to the real estate development and design industry, Community, a creative agency that’s worked with Grey Goose, Beck Taxi and Perrier, and Navigate, a design firm that’s worked with a wide range of clients, from major Toronto restaurants to international projects in Dubai.

Tickets for the two-day Future:Proof event are on sale now, with special discounted prices for students and VIP groups of five and 10. The Jane Mallett Theatre is located in the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts at 27 Front Street East. Tickets for the Afterparty are also available on the NXT City website.
