Built in 1962 to dazzle guests of the Seattle World’s Fair, the Edgewater Hotel is known for it’s beautiful waterfront location and many celebrity guests. Now the hotel is once again setting itself apart from the rest by offering a rare opportunity to someone with a thick wallet. For 5.5 million dollars, you can rent the whole place out for a month including 223 guest rooms and the full restaurant, reports PSBJ. If 5.5 million is too rich for your blood, you can also rent the whole thing for three days for just $550,000.
The Edgewater must assume that if it’s accommodations were good enough for hip guests such as The Beatles, Pearl Jam, The Village People, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, KISS, Wings, Neil Young, Frank Zappa, Blondie, Jewel, David Bowie, Emmy Lou Harris, Iggy Pop, Jessica Simpson, Mel Tormé, REM, Rod Stewart and Willie Nelson, someone with means would be willing to pay the price to extend their stay and expand their privacy.
There are certainly enough heavy hitters in Seattle who might take up such a promotion. Edgewater General Manager Bob Peckenpaugh told PSBJ that he envisions Paul Allen booking the place and inviting the Seattle Seahawks as his guests.
Whoever books the place will have many legends to live up to. KISS is known to have checked into the hotel in full costume and only have left their rooms when they were in full concert makeup and attire. The Village People started a spontaneous version of their hit song “YMCA” at the hotel bar. When the Beatles stayed, The Edgewater had to install cyclone fencing around the hotel to keep the screaming fans from breaking in. Some fans attempted to swim across Elliott Bay to get a glimpse. After their concert, The Beatles were transported back to the hotel in an ambulance, while taxi cabs were used as decoys. The band famously fished from the window of their Edgewater suite and the hilarity was captured in a photograph.
The iconic hotel on the water keeps upping it’s game to turn heads. Will someone take them up on this extravagant offer? The way 2017 is going so far, anything could happen.
