Katherine Salyi We’ve already picked Ryan Serhant’s brain, and now it’s time to sit down for a chat with his team member, Katherine Salyi. After earning her license four years ago, Salyi has already made a name for herself in the NYC real estate market.

An associate broker at Nest Seekers International, Salyi one of the top producers on Serhant’s team, which was ranked the number one sales team in NYC and sixth in the country by the Wall Street Journal. She recently closed a deal on a $15.9 million, 6,200-square-foot townhouse in Tribeca and has a lot of other exciting listings in the pipeline.

BuzzBuzzHome caught up with Salyi to talk Nest Seekers, NYC real estate and what’s on the docket for 2016.

BuzzBuzzHome: How did you get your start in the real estate industry?

Katherine Salyi: I landed a job in title insurance after graduating with a BA from the George Washington University in 2000. From that starting position as an executive assistant, I worked my way up to Assistant Vice President. Getting my real estate license four years ago was a natural career progression, and by far the role I enjoy most.

BBH: What led you to your role as an Associate Broker at Nest Seekers?

KS: My background in underwriting gave me a solid foundation and understanding of real estate. Hard work, drive, persistence, being very organized and excellent time management skills are all keys to my success.

BBH: What’s it like working with the star of Million Dollar Listing, Ryan Serhant? What have you learned from him as a broker?

KS: Ryan is a great mentor, and challenges me to do my very best. He has a strong work ethic which is something I relate to and respect. He also has high expectations, which is something I appreciate! One thing that I’ve learned from Ryan is that there’s no limit to my success–the harder you work the bigger the rewards. It keeps me motivated!

BBH: Your team was recently named #1 real estate team in New York state and #6 in the country. What’s different about the day-to-day when you’re working on such a high level in your industry?

KS: It’s very competitive and people will fight until the end to get a listing.

BBH: Would you like to be #1 in the country? Any plans on reaching the top spot?

KS: That’s a loaded question. I am happy where I am at at the moment. I’m able to spend time with my daughter and husband while still being able to do what I love.

BBH: What was the biggest deal you worked on this year?

KS: I just closed on the sale of a 6,200 square foot Tribeca townhouse with a garage for $15.9 million!

BBH: What listings are you most excited to be working on right now?

KS: I have a beautiful three-bedroom, three-bathroom condo for sale at 240 Riverside Blvd — it’s perched over the Hudson River on the 21st floor and the views are amazing. I am also working on a new condominium development in the East Village, which is very exciting and coming to market soon.

BBH: Where do you think the Manhattan market is heading in 2016? Are things set to cool off anytime soon?

KS: Buyers and sellers have confidence in the market right now – there are no signs of it cooling off and historically, NYC real estate has proved to be a solid investment. We will just have to wait and see what 2016 brings us!
