US-based Houzz.com, the world’s largest database of home renovation and decorating, presented its first ever market research study on Canadian homeowners at SOFA (Source of Furniture & Accessories) in Mississauga, Ontario on Thursday, November 29th.
The Houzz survey reveals how Canadian homeowners are planning to build, remodel and decorate their homes over the next two years.
Houzz sums up the survey results like this: “Canada is a renovation-nation.”
Some highlights from the study:
72 per cent of Canadian homeowners plan to remodel or redecorate their homes over the next two years, while 40 per cent will build an addition or remodel a portion of their home.
As to why homeowners are planning improvements, 83 per cent cited improving the look or feel of the space, whereas only 56 per cent said “increasing home value” was the motivation behind the upgrades.
On Canadians’ list of improvement priorities: flooring is first, bathrooms are second and the kitchen is third.
60 per cent of homeowners said they will prioritize budgets for home improvements over vacations or purchasing luxury items.
